Identity - Fall Conversation Topic 2018

Throughout the Fall we’re working on the idea of identity and self-awareness. Who are we? Who are we becoming? How is who we are connected to how we are in relationship to both God and other people?

Some of the goals of our spiritual work together include:

  • developing language for talking about ourselves in a way that affirms our individuality and the importance of community.

  • deepening our ability to listen to others and to ourselves (without a device on or nearby).

  • wrestling with the depth to which our notion of self is influenced by our relationships

  • coming to a deeper understanding of who and how God is in the world

  • having fun (of course!)

We’ll do this work through

  • conversation,

  • games,

  • reflection activities,

  • spiritual discipline

  • and self-reflection.

Our foundational activity is using a fun self-reflection resource around our likes and dislikes, passions and fears. [Who are you? PDF]

Youth Group Updates & Next Steps

you can take as a family to nurture your spiritual life

We had a conversation about different religions and our school, family and Oakland life on 4/8/18.  We used the following quiz [LINK TO PDF] as a spring board for our discussion.  You can take it (for your own knowledge) or use it to cultivate a conversation as a family about religious practice in your own family and our larger world.

We use Remind to stay in contact about events, activities and update via texts and email.
